Renewable Resources

Living "green" is about making smart decisions for the environment and you. Many of the materials we use are not recyclable, nor are they made from renewable resources – something that can be replenished at a rate comparable to its rate of consumption.

Some natural resources that qualify as renewable include the air, water, biomass or sustainably harvested timber. Wood and fiber products to consider for new construction projects or clothing include sustainably harvested hemp, bamboo, cotton or cork. Renewable energy can be harnessed from wind, water, the sun or even geothermal heat. Those options are plausible, especially when solar chargers for your cell phone and mp3 player are available for purchase.

Aspen Grille

If you are tired of cafeteria and fast food on campus, then come check out the award winning Aspen Grille in the Lory Student Center. Not only does the restaurant offer the campus community a fine dining experience, it also supports the sustainable agriculture movement by buying locally produced meats, cheeses, beers and produce. Unique local items include the Ramburger, which is made from Hi Ho Sheep Farm lamb, and the Rubenesque made of corned Colorado bison. The Aspen Grille is open to the public from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday during the academic year. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 970-491-7006.
