iPods are Green
Did you know the iPod Nano is a green device? It contains no hazardous material, is easy to recycle and uses little power. Plus, downloading all the music straight to an iPod means less CD waste in the future.
You can get even greener with a solar charger for your iPod and mobile phone. Standard chargers always use electricity when plugged in and need an outlet to work. But a solar charger can store the sun's energy and be used anywhere.
Apple even operates a free iPod recycling program, conducted through Apple's retail stores. For recycling your old iPod, you can receive a 10% discount on the purchase of a new model.
How to be a Green Student
- Check that you are using energy-saving light bulbs, switch off unused electronics, and unplug unused chargers.
- Wash your laundry in cold water and use eco-friendly soap.
- Clean with eco-friendly products, such as Method brand from Target. They sell biodegradable wipes and environmentally conscious products.
- Drink from reusable plastic or aluminum containers. They are easy to take anyway, plus they come in many great designs and colors.
- When you need new school supplies, look for those made from recycled materials.
- Purchasing used textbooks is cheap and environmentally friendly.
- For a great way to stay healthy and keep the air clean, ride your bike instead of taking your car.
Thinking Green when you Move
It's that time of year again - time to move. Did you know this time you can help to promote a healthy planet? As you move, consider donating your "junk" to organizations that might be able to recycle or reuse those items. Safely dispose of hazardous materials, such as batteries, household cleaners and paints.
When you move in, the items you choose to buy, or not buy, have a tremendous impact on the world we share, so consider what you purchase and where it comes from. Things like low-energy fluorescent bulbs and Energy Star products are great money-savers. Environmentally-friendly products are generally recycled and less toxic – a good idea when you are looking to clean common household items.
