06 00 00 – GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Wood, plastic and composites shall be prohibited for exterior exposure unless approved by Facilities Management (FM) Design Review Committee (DRC) and Project Representative.
06 10 00 – ROUGH CARPENTRY
A. Wood stud wall framing shall be prohibited unless approved by Project Representative.
B. Comply with these standards unless more stringent requirements are required by the Project and Construction Documents:
1. Heavy Timber Construction – American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) 108 Standard for Heavy Timber Construction
2. Structural Glued Laminated Units – American National Standard Institute (ANSI)/AITC A190.1 Structural Glued Laminated Units
3. Prefabricated Wood Trusses – ANSI/Truss Plate Institute (TPI) “National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses” and Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) “Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses”
06 20 00 – FINISH CARPENTRY
A. Pressed wood panel products with added urea–formaldehyde resins, wafer board, low–density particle board and similar products shall be prohibited. Wood paneling shall be used as an interior wall finish if it meets appropriate fire ratings and is approved by Project Representative.
06 41 00 – ARCHITECTURAL WOOD CASEWORK
A. Wood cabinet details, Specifications and fabrications shall conform to the Architectural Woodwork Institute, Architectural Woodwork Standards, Custom Grade.
B. Plywood with waterproof glue or medium density industrial particle board (MDP) shall be used for countertop bases and shelf substrates. MDP shall not be used within 3’–0” of wet areas.
C. Plastic laminate countertop joints, including backsplashes, shall be sealed with clear or color matching silicon sealant.
D. Wood cabinets shall not be used in wet areas. Extremely high moisture areas in wet labs and animal areas shall have epoxy or other waterproof materials for countertops.
